2007-2008 firm Certificates of Authorization will expire Friday, June 30, 2008

The Board has mailed 2008-2009 firm Certificate of Authorization renewal reminders. Certificates of Authorization to provide engineering and surveying services in the state of Ohio expire each year on June 30. To renew, a renewal application must be downloaded from our website. Please note that the renewal form requires your firm's 5-digit Certificate of Authorization license number which you can find in the lower right corner of your renewal letter, on your current license, or from the License lookup page.

While you can complete the renewal application online, you will need to print the application and mail it with a $25.00 fee made payable to Treasurer, State of Ohio. Mail the renewal application to the address on the application.

IMPORTANT! Your Certificate of Authorization will will expire and become inactive if the annual renewal filing has not been received by the Board on the close of business on June 30, 2008.

REMINDER…Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4733 requires that your firm Certificate of Authorization application have an ACTIVE Ohio Secretary of State charter or registration number. You can search Ohio's Secretary of State website to find your firm's number.

NACE names Bert Dawson, P.E., P.S. as 2007 Urban County Engineer of the Year

Board Vice Chairman Bert Dawson, P.E., P.S.The National Association of County Engineers has recently named Columbiana County Engineer Bert Dawson, P.E., P.S. as the Urban County Engineer of the year for 2007.

All states in the U.S. have the opportunity to nominate someone for this national competition. Dawson was nominated for the national award by the Ohio County Engineers Association of Ohio and was presented the award at the annual National Association of County Engineers Convention in Portland Oregon. Some of the criteria considered for the award includes education, projects completed, preparation and presentation of engineering reports, public service, civic and professional awards and memberships in and service to state and national engineering organizations.

Dawson has previously served as Board Member and President of the Ohio County Engineers Association of Ohio, member of the Ohio Council of County Officials, serves on the nominating Committee for the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, and is presently the Vice Chairperson of the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors.

Dawson began his career as County Engineer in 1969, being the youngest County Engineer ever elected in the State of Ohio and is now completing his tenth consecutive term in office making him the longest serving Engineer in the State.

After receiving the award Dawson gave credit for his success to the employees of his office, both past and present, stating, "If you surround yourself with good people, they will make you look good."

Engineer Dawson is married to St. Clair Township Fiscal Officer, Deborah Dawson. He has two sons and three grandchildren all residing in the Calcutta, Columbiana County area.

Notice to Civil Engineering graduates applying for the Fundamentals of Surveying examination

Effective January 1, 2009 graduates of accredited civil engineering programs applying to take the fundamentals of surveying examination under Ohio Revised Code section 4733.11(B)(2)(a) will be required to complete the surveying courses on the updated Surveying Courses Worksheet. Applications filed after January 1, 2009 using the previous worksheet will be considered by the Board on a case-by-case basis.

Continuing professional development reminder

Do not mail the Board your continuing professional development [CPD] documentation or activity log unless requested by the Board. During an audit, the Board will request the documentation in writing in order to verify that you have completed CPD requirements.

The Board does not pre-approve CPD providers, courses or activities. It is up to you to make sure the provider, course or activity claimed meets the requirements of Ohio R.C. section 4733.151.

There is NO grace period for earning your 15 CPD hours.
When you renew you will need to certify that you have earned 15 CPD hours during the preceding year. If you have not completed the CPD requirement, your registration status will become inactive.
